Photon Hub is a pan-European photonics digital innovation hub to help SMEs and mid-caps become highly competitive digital businesses through faster and smarter deployment of photonics-based technologies. 

Photonics, the science and technology of generating, controlling, and detecting photons, is a key enabling technology that is rapidly transforming the traditional industrial base. Photonics technologies are being used to create and launch exciting new products for application in a wide range of markets sectors including healthcare, digital infrastructure, manufacturing, safety, security, space, defence, agri-food, mobility and energy.

A single photonics innovation hub

To accelerate the uptake and deployment of photonics technologies by European industries, PhotonHub has established a single photonics innovation hub to integrates all of the best-in-class photonics technologies, facilities, expertise and experience from 53 leading centres across Europe spread between 15 member states, comprising 500+ experts. 

PhotonHub provides open access support for any company anywhere in Europe that wants to innovate with photonics. We offer tailored expert advice on the next steps towards the successful implementation of your photonics-enabled innovation, as well as guiding you towards the most appropriate local support activity. This open-access hub is a one-stop-shop solution for any company anywhere in Europe that wants to innovate with photonics.

In the UK, your local representatives are CPI and the University of Southampton.

How to get support from PhotonHub Europe

If you’re looking to engage with the PhotonHub Europe, contact your local project representative, by filling out the short form below, to get started. They will advise you on how best to engage with the project and will guide you through the process.

In the UK your local project representatives are CPI and the University of Southampton, they can tell you about any relevant funding or support that may be available in your area.

Funding support available

A fund of €7.4million is available to eligible SMEs, enabling companies to access support from PhotonHub delivery partners. The amount of funding is based on a range of criteria including TRL level and company size. As an example, for SMEs with a prototyping project (TRL 3 – 4) 100% of the first €30k is available.

Callum is Principal Enterprise Fellow at Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton and is an expert in Silicon Photonics device design, fabrication and characterisation.

Amir is Business Development Manager at the University of Southampton and has expertise in manufacturing, assembly and large volume metrology

Dr Tom Harvey

CPI

Tom is Healthcare Photonics Lead at CPI. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, has 5 patents and has authored or co-authored more than 10 technical papers in the fields of printed electronics, micro-optics, micro-systems engineering, microfluidics and integrated optics.
