CPI brings a new innovation centre to Greater Manchester
21 Nov 2023
A new innovation centre launched today will help companies adopt state-of-the-art sustainable materials.
CPI is one of a number of partners involved in creating The Centre of Expertise in Advanced Materials and Sustainability (CEAMS) and bringing it to Rochdale.
The Centre will support the development and commercialisation of advanced sustainable materials and anchor high-value investment in the Greater Manchester region.
CEAMS will be initially funded as a two-year pilot programme by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s (DSIT) and led by a consortium of expert partners to ensure a strong support network for businesses to cement their operations in the North West.
Responding to global needs
The Centre will build on the Greater Manchester regions existing capability to support the development of advanced sustainable materials and address current supply-chain gaps.
There is a global shortage of companies that are able to provide advanced sustainable materials and a market failure in the industry’s ability to scale-up and adopt sustainable materials in manufacturing applications.
Atom Valley
CEAMS will form part of Atom Valley, which covers a vast area of 17 million sq ft and will offer 20,000 new highly skilled roles within world-class businesses.
Atom Valley is a project funded by the Greater Manchester Innovation Accelerator Programmes and is designed to empower local leaders to harness innovation in support of economic growth, attracting private R&D investment and develop future technologies.
Kris Wadrop, Managing Director of Materials at CPI said:
“We’re committed to making bright ideas a reality. This is an exciting project and we’re proud to play our part in it. There’s a global need for advanced sustainable materials in manufacturing. This pilot project has the potential to show us the way forward and give businesses confidence that there are ways they can adopt new technologies and set a course for a greener future.
“CPI is looking forward to bringing our expertise to this project and collaborating with some of the very best academics and industry leaders, bringing inward investment to Rochdale and the Greater Manchester region.”
