Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is a rapid method of measuring the vibrations of functional groups and highly polar bonds.
The technique can verify the presence of functional groups and molecules and can hence be used to identify materials or monitor the occurrence or extent of a chemical reaction.
Three accessories are available:
1) Transmission accessory; 2) Attenuated total reflectance accessory fitted with either a zinc selenide crystal (single bounce) or a reflectance plate; 3) Attenuated total reflectance accessory fitted with a germanium crystal (multi bounce).
