Ventus Medical
Developing a nicotine replacement therapy
Bringing a novel pharmaceutical electronic nicotine delivery system to clinical trial
CPI is working with Ventus Medical, a medical device and pharmaceutical development company specialising in the innovation of novel inhalation technologies. Ventus Medical is creating a nicotine replacement therapy that has been designed to help adult smokers to quit smoking by alleviating nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
Ventus Medical is addressing one of the greatest public health challenges by realising safe and effective tools that can be deployed by policymakers to reduce morbidity and mortality and improve the lives of the general population.
We are working with Ventus Medical to help design and create a replaceable single-use cartridge that will deliver an accurate nicotine dosage to adult smokers whilst eliminating toxicant exposure, which in turn will reduce cravings and alleviate nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
“ CPI has played a pivotal role in the development of ENHALE, allowing us to identify the optimum materials and processes for the scalable & sustainable manufacturer of a safe and efficacious medicine. ”

The challenge
Ventus Medical is addressing one of the greatest public health challenges by realising safe and effective tools that can be deployed by policymakers to reduce morbidity and mortality and improve the lives of the general population.
We are working with Ventus Medical to help design and create a replaceable single-use cartridge that will deliver an accurate nicotine dosage to adult smokers whilst eliminating toxicant exposure, which in turn will reduce cravings and alleviate nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
How CPI helped
CPI has been engaged to develop an innovative heating element within the cartridge that aerosolises the formulation so that it can be inhaled by the user during use. An iterative design and optimisation process was employed to assess different designs and materials to develop a reproducible device that operated within the target range. The cartridges had to be produced to specification and at scale to ensure readiness for a clinical trial which is scheduled for 2021.
Working together, CPI has assisted in reducing overall development time and expediting time to market through rapid development of design and manufacturing practices required to deliver this innovative product. CPI has reduced costs, increased margins and reduced the time to clinic through the delivery of specialist skills and facilities within the flexible electronics market and medical devices.
CPI’s blend of practical and theoretical experience has helped Ventus Medical to develop its medical device product quickly and provided options on the manufacturing processes at scale. Proof of concepts that support sustainability are critical consideration of the design process and the exploration of different materials is part of the reported outcomes that CPI can deliver to clients.
As either a direct client or through a channel, CPI can help deliver an outcome that is underpinned by scientific expertise, reduces time to market and eliminates unnecessary manufacturing costs.
